Intervarsity Series - Game 1 Recap
The Intervarsity series kicked off this past Monday with both divisions being hotly contested. The women in teal were able to grab the win (83 - 79) over a USYD side that seemingly never gave up throughout the entire contest. USYD were lead by their debutant Lara Warner who couldn't miss from the land of plenty with 18 points and Annie Henderson with 12 points. Maddy Norris had a game high 36 points to lead all scorers with Sherrie Calleia right behind her with 21 points and 6 rebounds. The girls are looking to build off this performance and gel a bit more for game two and hopefully grab another win. The mens division saw UTS fade out in the 3rd quarter to then comeback strong in the late stages in the 4th but to no avail (75 - 84). USYD led by strong performance from Ollie Bowman (24 Points) and their spark off the bench Tom Roche who helped initiate their big 3rd quarter run. Reggie Ridlen led UTS with 26 points and an impressive 8 3PM, Jock Jensen was just behind him with 18 points while Christopher Vera had a respectable game with 10 points and 13 rebounds. The boys will be looking for improvements on the defensive end if they are wanting to contain this USYD outfit. Tip off times will remain the same for Friday’s rematches (Women 11am, Men 1pm), with those interested in watching the games live encouraged set reminders for the livestreams through the Sydney Uni Basketball Facebook page. #bleedteal
